Mean Abs June

Alright ladies and gentlemen it is the last day of May, absolutely insane!

We have fallen off the gym wagon for the time being, not because we don't enjoy it but because we have just been crazy busy! New jobs, position changes, a secret I hope to one day blog about, the wedding is coming up super fast (4.5 months), along with going out and living life.

So for the moment we are saving gym membership money and will pick it back up once everything slows down. We are fitting in outdoor activities and taking the stairs instead of the elevator.

Here is a simple way to bring in a little fitness into our lives. A June Ab Challenge. July 1st I will be back with an update. Hold me accountable peoples! Join me?

If you decide to join spread the word Tweet tweet: "@unSimplyCelia is doing an Ab Challenge for June! Join us. #Fitfluential"

Do you do IT yourself?

If you didn't read yesterday's post you need to. It is both funny, and shocking. I came home last night and it looked like a computer had exploded on the table. Mychael was rebuilding our server.

There was no sense in me getting dinner together quite yet so I decided to finish up my nails from lunch. If you want it done right, you gotta do it yourself I guess.

I posted this photo on Instagram this morning to show off my, hopefully, new drink of choice when it isn't water, Sprite Zero. My sweet Insta-followers could care less about the Sprite Zero and wanted to know about my nails! This makes me love them that much more, if you aren't already following me on Instagram go ahead now.

The nail polish I'm wearing is Confetti - Bayou Blue! $1.99 at CVS!

Do you love it?

All I wanted was a nail polish change...

Ok y'all, 90% of the time I do my own manicures or nail polish changes. I don't have the time to schedule these appointments as often as I would like, and sometimes I am antisocial. So, when I do go it is usually because 1) I feel like I need some pampering 2) I am having a nail emergency 3) The nail polish is difficult to remove.

Today, numbero dos and tres was the issue, see my nail files post here. Glitter = difficult and I didn't feel like dealing with it & my nails were looking horrid.

The company I work for encourages everyone to take a 1hr lunch break daily. Plenty of time for a color change right?

So strange, right? I always look at a guy a little cross eyed when they come out of a nail salon... BUT this one also offered waxes, facials, and massages. So, I can respect a guy that wants to keep his looks up. But... to tell me I can't get a nail polish change... and there were no other clients in there?!?! I figured I just got there before the lunch crowd came in. Won't be stopping in there again.

Lucky for me I am surrounded by shopping centers, next one over...

I walked in VO nails, the ladies were sitting around chatting and seemed friendly. I asked for a nail polish change, they asked for me to select my color and then I sat in the chair. Normal, right? The manicurist started taking off the nail polish from one of my fingers then said "oh, it messed up my nail polish..." um, really? i've gone to my fair share of salons from high end to in the dumps you typically don't wear nail polish because. this.will.happen. then "your nail polish is difficult to take off, what is this? glitter?" and she hands me a cotton ball and the nail polish remover as she takes off her own nail polish.

I was dumbfounded and thought for a second, "ok, I'll take off my own nail polish" ... but then I came back to reality, this is her job to do, not mine! This is why I am paying her. I politely told her "I'm sorry, I'm going to go, but thank you." She apologized and offered to do it, but I was already dissatisfied. Will not be stopping at this place again either.

Talk about bad luck! So I walked into CVS with one nail polish-less nail and others with cotton ball strings on them to buy myself some remover and polish. Nail walk of shame, for sure! 10 minutes later polish was off and one layer of nail polish was on.

Am I alone here with these bad experiences?

Phone Photo Mashup

Hello there! Happy Memorial day to my American friends! Two great link ups for today above, click the pretty buttons!

  • I have not been drinking nearly enough water lately. With the summer heat and humidity here, I need to keep on it. What is your fave bottled water? Or flavored water? I LOVE smart water, but it is a bit pricey. So my second fave would have to be iced lemon water. You have to put the ice in first, then squeeze the fresh lemon on top of the ice, then put in the water... It makes a difference which order you go in. I swear.

  • For our 7th Anniversary Mychael and I hoped in the car had an overnight stay in San Antonio. So much fun! We absolutely love the Riverwalk. We went to the Tower of the Americas, you HAVE to go. So so pretty, and so windy. Don't wear a dress... or this may happen. Almost a Marilyn Monroe moment.

  • I found these fabulous Peacock Feather earrings at Target last week. I want to wear them every day! For some reason the Target earrings that are nickle free don't bother my ears. I have never been able to wear fake earrings for more than a couple hours. I can leave these in for a full 8hrs and not be bothered by them!

That is all for today, my sweets! Have a great week!

Don't forget about the fun giveaway here

The Nail Files IX + 4yr Blogoversary!

Happy Friday!!!! I received an email from one of those wedding websites that I signed up for (don't we sign up for a million of them when we get engaged?) the subject was wedding day nail polish, one was a french manicure but with glitter tips. I figured, sure, I'll give it a shot. I am so in love!

I used Nicole by OPI Kardashian Kollection - Rainbow in the S-Kylie

What do you think? I may go with this for our wedding day in October... but have it professionally done. Do you have any other suggestions for me? What did you do?

    Seven Years. I love you.

Happy 7th Anniversary, Mychael. I can't believe it has been 7 years for us already! It seems like 7 is our lucky number. We knew each other for 7 months before we started dating, we were dating for 7 months before you whispered to me "I love you", I can still remember that night, I can still feel your heart beating rapidly, my head was on your chest. Now, 7 years together and I'm getting ready to call you my husband. My husband... wow...

I knew you were the one when...

    • we were sitting out at buzzfest because I wouldn't hang out with you alone, you took off your sunglasses and for the first time I noticed your beautiful blue eyes and your amazing smile. The way you looked at me was the way no other guy had before.
    • we went out on our first date, you opened my doors for me, and talking to you came naturally.
    • you were impressed with my eating skills.
    • we watched our first movie together at your house, I layed cuddled in your arms and they just felt like "home".
    • I realized that you were never just "some guy" to me. I genuinely cared about you, I loved you, but I would never be the first to say it. I just hoped you loved me too.
    • my family let me travel out of state with you. what? they never let me stay out past 10pm and they trusted you with their only daughter?
    •  you told me "no" for the first time... I even did my hair flip and batted my eyelashes. You told me "no"...
    • you bought me my heart necklace on our 1st anniversary that I wear almost daily, you told me the diamonds in it represented the past, present, and the future. I didn't freak out when you mentioned future.
    • my family and I lost our house during Hurricane Ike, you told me everything was going to be okay, we would make it through. I layed in bed hysterically crying night after night and you stayed up with me as late as I needed you to. I didn't feel like I could go on, I was so lost, but you always knew exactly what to say to help me calm down and wake up to another day.
    • you sat on my parents couch as I was telling them that I was going to be losing my Marco, my baby, because of feline diabetes and you stopped me and showed me a website with a forum of people who all had cats with feline diabetes, you told me and my parents that we weren't going to lose him it was treatable, we would find a way. And we did.
    • on numerous occasions you have taken it upon yourself to help my parents out in whatever way they may have needed. From helping them move, to making a few phone calls, to setting up and attending appoints for/with them or just being there for them with a listening ear.
    • we are sitting at home watching TV and the cats are fighting over who gets to sit in your lap, when you are sitting at the dining room table eating your salad while I am getting our plates together, when you wake up in the morning and the first thing you do is come over to where I am getting ready and give me a great big hug from behind and a kiss on the cheek.
I can't wait to be Mrs. Houck. I'm so excited to see what the future holds for us. I wonder where we will be a year from now? I really don't care, just as long as it is you and me continuing along this journey.

    I love you, Mr. Houck.

    save the date 10.13.2012

It looks like we are keeping our date! Do you remember our wedding planning uh-ohs here and here? Those of you who left comments, thanks so much for your encouraging words.

Picking items for your wedding which represent you as a couple is so hard y'all! We used Wedding Paper Divas. They have so many save the dates to choose from. We played around on their website for hours at a time! We finally decided on the one above. Super simple, and clean. Refreshing, and ... just, us!

When Mychael opened the box and saw them his eyes started to water. For me, holding them in my hands, I just got this overwhelming feeling in my heart! They are super gorgeous, you can't tell from the photo above but they have this slight shimmer to the paper and it makes it super classy. We couldn't be happier.

I mailed off our save the dates on Monday!!!! We are just 5 months away from the wedding. Good gosh time flies by so fast!

I suppose we should start looking at the invitations, and programs, and thank you notes...

    What do you think?

**Our save the dates were sponsored by Wedding Paper Divas. All thoughts within this post are my own**

A new link up from one of my fave bloggers and someone I call a mentor (even though I haven't chatted with her in a bit). So click that button up top, read, comment, and do your own! =) ...oh, but read mine first.

This link up works for me, I'm super random. If only you lived in my head... or house, poor Mychael.

    • I can't seem to catch up on my sleep, no matter how hard I try lately. There is always something to do, or somewhere to go.
    • Bridezilla came out and I may or may not have pissed off some of my wedding party via email. Oh well, my wedding, my way our wedding, our way... and in all honesty, it made things a lot easier for everyone.
    • I took myself off of BC, no, not because we want to start a little familia but because even though I thought this one was the right one it made me a person I was not. Can we say I didn't want cuddles, or anyone to speak to me, and I may or may not have felt bipolar? Gahhh! I'm back to being me now. Thank goodness!
    • I had a date night with myself while Mychael had a poker night last week. Super enjoyable! Dinner out, table for 1 and the waiter did not believe the 18yo me in my ID was me and thought it was my older sister. I still got my Margarita though.
    • Save - the - dates are addressed and I forgot them at home. Whoops. You get to see them later this week!!! Yay!
    • I am in the process of shutting down my Scentsy biz, I barely have time to sleep, and Uncle Sam keeps taking my earnings from this away. No fun.
    • My new job is still super awesome. I had a meeting with my boss last week and he said they loved me and were impressed with me. Whoohoo! We had a company dinner to celebrate a big contract and let's just say we all wished they would have told us not to come in the next day. Zzz...
    • My blogoversary is coming up, 4yrs, wheeee!!!!
    • I have some affiliates over there <--- and will be introducing you to them soon. =)
    • I have a super big secret of my own and I have been forbidden to blog about it or tell anyone about it. Bumm to the er.

    Young Professional?

Last week my friend Shellie and I were chatting about jobs, industries, and networking. She mentioned the Houston Young Professional Endevour better known locally as HYPE and how we should start going out to their events. I network a bit within my industry, and she hasn't really started yet. When she mentioned it I immediately asked her... are we still young professionals though? I mean we are almost 30, when are you no longer a young professional? We didn't quite know. So I took my question to twitter, most of the photos I have seen from these types of events are full of people who look like they just graduated college, so 22/23?

So, with Bree's answer I think I would feel a little better walking into an event. I mean, it's not like they would tell me "sorry honey, you're too old you have to leave" ha. ...but still.

What do you think? and have you ever attended a Young Professionals event?

Swapping: Point Me to the Sky Above

    Hey there! It's RAY J!

I'm a mommy and a wife. A Dallas Cowboys fan born and bred in Northern Illinois. A video game player and former WoW addict (my son has a Mario Bros themed room!). A fantasy lover, movie watcher, book reader, music listener and am in loooove with the new Taco Bell Doritos taco! I went to college and got a bachelor's degree in art, focusing on graphic design, yet somehow I ended up working retail part-time. I also live in what Forbes deems to be the 9th worst city in the US, yet I've lived here most of my life and it doesn't seem *that* bad... Oh and I recently helped my sis (and my mom) plan her wedding in just 5 weeks - talk about a crazy whirlwind month March was!

In addition to blogging about my family and the going-ons in my life, I participate in link-ups and swaps and occasionally make some humorous posts, share some neat video game or pop culture art, and make nostalgic trips down memory lane of things we enjoyed in the 80s, 90s and early 00s!

Man... does it have to be Monday? My weekend was fantabulous! I had a great Friday....
my good friends surprised me at work with Crave cupcakes, my boss bought the entire office lunch so that we could help her out so we could all go home early. Free lunch and cupcakes, I'd say that's a good work day. I was a little scared Friday after work, we had to take our little girl, Speedette to the vet's office. She had been up coughing and sneezing all night long. The last two times we took our cats to the vet's office they never came back home. :( ... so to say I had some anxiety is, well... an understatement. Luckily it was just an infection that is easily treated with some antibiotics. I'm hoping she's 100% by midweek. She has been sleeping through most of the night this weekend. On Friday night Mychael and I met up with our friends for a double date and we saw 5yr Engagement. Oh my god y'all. I loved this movie. We died laughing in the theaters. Go see it, seriously!

Saturday we went out to Keels & Wheels  in Seabrook, lots of vintage cars and boats, this year the focus was mostly on pre-war era vehicles, so much fun. Apparently these people believe you should have a minimum of two vintage boats/cars for you collection. Looks like we have some work to do. One day, I love cars. It was hotter than we expected but fun nonetheless. I think we may have been the youngest couple there, but that's okay. Afterwards we headed to a local bar and watched then end of the UH baseball game and I got a Margarita, it was Cinco de Mayo and I am Mexican - I had to.

On Sunday we met up with my maid of honor and her husband + others for the Silver Glove tournament between Rice University and University of Houston. We beat them on Friday night, lost Saturday night and I just knew we would beat them on Sunday... we did not. My little heart was broken and the silver glove stayed on the Rice University Campus. Sad day.

We went to Ragin Cajun afterwards, it was my first time there and the food was delicious! Margaritas, oh my my yummy! The staff was pretty down to earth, which I loved. We will be back for sure! Then, they tweeted me and told me my photos were going online. Squeeeee! It's the little things that make me happy.

Also, you should probably stalk Vicki's blog for a fun giveaway...

Good luck with the giveaway. I hope y'all have a great week, and remember your day is what you make of it! =)

    Its OK

    Its Ok Thursdays

Thank goodness it is Thursday! I'm still loving my new job, I'm finishing up week 3 right now! Whoohoo! I decided to link up with the two lovely ladies mentioned above today! Wheeee. So let's get started!

    It's okay:
    • to almost cancel the wedding, and just go down to the court house due to wedding planning stress.
    • decide that when we said small intimate wedding we really meant it, and decided that 50 people in attendance is too many.
    • to just not care anymore about a lot of things and, a lot of people.
    • to be really disappointed in people referenced above.
    • that I haven't hit the gym in a bit, I'm sorry but as much as being fit/healthy is important to me I don't want my life to revolve around a gym.
    • to never ever want to get out of bed, it's just so comfy!
    • to subscribe to too many magazines.
    • to rebel against the recent 50 Shades of Grey trend.

What's okay with you? Tell us and link up!

Swapping: The life of a not so desperate housewife

I'm a 28 year old, newly married, newly living in Washington, librarian, trying to find a job in a library. Meanwhile I'm working with kids, and spend my afternoons playing Mancala and reading picture books.
My life certainly isn't where I thought it would be 5 years ago, but I'm happy, and that's all that matters! Come along with me as I share the occasional recipe, redecorating projects and pictures, and hopefully gain insight from the internet and fellow bloggers along the way.

    Chicken Italiano

    Chicken Italiano

I made this recipe earlier this week for our lunches, turned out quite yummy so I figured I would share here.

    • 2 large whole boneless, skinless chicken breasts
    • 3/4 tsp salt
    • 1/4 tsp black pepper
    • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
    • 1/2 tsp dried basil
    • 2 bay leaves
    • 26 oz jar low-sodium meatless spaghetti sauce
    1. Place chicken in the bottom of slow cooker.
    2. Sprinkle seasonings over chicken.
    3. Pour sauce over seasoned meat, stirring to be sure chicken is completely covered.
    4. Cover. Cook on low 6hrs or high for 4hrs
    5. Serve over pasta. (i chose to serve with garlic rice)

Let me know if you tried this recipe out. I think next time I will actually do it with some pasta. Mmmm I do love me some pasta!

Don't forget to tell the one you love that you love them every single day. Tell them you love them when you wake up, when you head out the door, randomly through out the day, when you get home, before dinner, after dinner, before bed, and especially during and after a disagreement.  I love you is something you can never say too much, something you'll never want to regret not saying.
