Gossip Girls

The saying goes, “if they’ll gossip with you, they’ll gossip about you”. Just as getting involved with someone who cheated on their partner to be with you will likely result in you being cheated on, so it goes with those you may think to be in you inner-most circle, and you’ll never know who you can truly trust.

Over the past few months I have sat back as a silent witness to various catfights put on display via various social media outlets (some between people who have never met face-to-face) each stemming from something that “someone told” them and am nothing short of appalled not only in their behavior, but at the cause of it all.

What is it with women and gossiping? Some may point to the fact that it actually helps build bonds in the infancy of relationships. Others will tell of the way it unites otherwise divided groups by offering a common enemy against which an alliance is formed. Several studies, however, shed an entirely different light on the subject- a revealing bit of insight which explicates the notion that gossipers often harbor deeply-rooted insecurities and use breaking others down as a method in which to temporarily boost their self worth.

Generally, women (or people in general) who are confident, secure, and wholly happy with their lives don’t feel the need to degrade people around them in order to obtain satisfaction. Malicious intent does nothing to trigger feelings of accomplishment or pleasure. These women are more likely to build others up, which further increases their fulfillment.

Don’t we, as women (sorry, fellas, if you happen to be reading) have enough people trying to tear us down? Our mothers, grandmothers and theirs before them made great strides in creating the more balanced world in which we live, but there are still so many hurdles we must each clear on a regular basis. Why are we, as we’re running full speed around this track of life, slashing so violently at one another’s Achilles? Will spending hours upon hours so spitefully discussing such trivial matters as another woman’s style or weight, décor or choices that only affect her life really make your existence any more worthwhile? Will your boss or husband or parents be any more proud of the work you have done that day if you have disparaged another?

It’s time that we put an end to the bitch-fests and build one another up. Eliminate the excess stress in your life by cutting out the time and effort spent ripping other women to shreds, and gear that energy toward something more productive. Imagine what we could accomplish if we spent our time encouraging those around us to reach their full potential.
Next time you feel the urge to talk about someone, look within yourself and honestly admit to what it is that you’re lacking, then work to fix that. If you aren’t able to make any headway, try helping someone else. I promise, it’s much more rewarding than walking away having done nothing more than run your mouth.

On the Value of the Truth

With sincerest tongue, I gave you truth. Convinced myself to stand bold, honorably exposing my desire to part ways, hopefully, amicably cut ties. From you, I assumed I too received truth, that you supported my decision to go encouraged my pursuit to grow for my dream could lay no root in shallow soil. But you deny me the honesty I believe in return my own deserves. Hold me in contempt for my words for my wish does not serve your interest you long to keep me here, despite my misery hold me to your standard of mediocrity but I will serve as no prisoner here I will not succumb to the life you did. I may regret this decision to not hold my tongue, but make no mistake, my words were indeed true. You never deserved my best or my truth which is all that I ever gave you.

#FitFluential: Running

Follow me on My Fitness Pal

I went for my first run of the summer not too long ago. It's always frustrating to go back to any exercise after you have taken some time off of it. Running is something that I feel anyone can pick up and be good at. I am lucky to live in a beautiful area. Beautiful to me anyway. I love to run by the water, there is just something so calming about it.

So why do I run?
  • It is just me listening to my footsteps, my breathe and the beat of my own heart. I get to a point where everything else around me just kind of disappears and I am one with my body. It's a beautiful feeling.
  • You see the world around you differently. You notice little things around your area that you never noticed before and you can take the time to stop and smell the roses.
  • Running is something that you can do at your own leisure.
  • It doesn't require a gym membership. - saving money is always a plus right? plus if you want to run races it can help you get used to different terrain. running in an air conditioned gym in the middle of the summer is not the same as running out in the texas heat. learned that lesson a few years ago.
  • You meet new people. - Mychael and I did our "marina run" and stopped at the light house to rest up a bit, while we were there we met another couple who were probably a little older than our parents. They had encouraging words for us regarding our futures and our dreams. Complete strangers, and now new friends that we will probably stop and talk to when we do that run.
  • It's fun!!!

My favorite running shoes are made by Mizuno. We have a local running store and they fit your for the perfect shoes based on your step. It's amazing. I used to have knee and ankle pain after running, once I had shoes fit for my step - those pains all went away. It is important to have a good pair of running shoes - if you have a running store near you I recommend going to be fit. You won't regret it.

My long term goal is to eventually run a half marathon. I don't need to win it, but I would love to complete one.

Are you a runner? What are some of the best tips you have received?
Want to run? What your long term goals?

On Contentment

My husband and I
I'm Megg, and I write over at The Life of a not so Desperate Housewife. I knit, cross stitch, make jewelry and scrapbooks and play mancala and Monopoly at work. I live in Seattle with my husband and two crazy cats.

I'm in a season of my life that I never expected to be in 2 years ago, when I married my husband. Or 6 years ago, when I first met him. Or 11 years ago, as I was heading into my last semester in high school. For better or for worse, this is where I am now.
For better or for worse, I'm working part time, in a job I love that isn't exactly in my field (although it's a lot closer than when I was working in an office last year).

When we first got married, I thought we'd be talking about having a kid after our second anniversary, and start a family soon after that anniversary. Well, we just hit 2 1/2 years and though we did have that discussion, neither of us feels that we are ready, for various reasons.

When I graduated with a Masters in Library and Information Science 2 1/2 years ago, I thought I'd be working as a children's librarian in a public library by now. For better or for worse, I'm working with kids, but not in a library setting.

There are so many things that I could be discontent about in my life right now. I'm not living the life I thought I'd be living by now. But you know what? That's OK. I'm learning to be content with the season of life I'm in. It's not perfect, but it's my life.

So, I go to work every day and smile because the kids make me happy. I wake up every morning next to my husband and smile because we have this time together, just the two of us. I sit on my Freecycle couch instead of the recliners that I thought we would have by now, and I'm thankful that we at least have a couch to sit on.

The truth is, I'm incredibly blessed, even if I'm not living the life that I always thought I would be. I'm learning to be content in what I have, and not comparing myself to others. It can be a struggle, but then I remind myself that I will never have these years back. I know in 10 years, I will look back on this season of my life and be glad I experienced everything I did. It isn't always what I want, but it's my life, and I'm learning to love it, and myself, just the way I am.

Fashion + Tradition: 4th of July

My Vickilicious Life

I'm honored to guest post for the lovely Celia while she takes a little break from blogging!  I cannot even believe how fast this year is flying by! Fourth of July is literally days away!  It's tradition in my family that no matter who is hosting the family BBQ you must show up wearing:
Red, White & Blue
(if you don't we won't send you home, but you will probably most likely get picked on all day)

My sister & me, a long time ago ;)

I personally love getting all decked out in patriotic colors on Forth of July.  I'm still debating on what to wear this wear, so I decided to take to my pinterest boards for some inspiration:

Our  family's Fourth of July BBQ's always include lots of laughs, poking fun at one another, too much food
and just enjoying each others company and I for one cannot wait for the 4th this year :-) Hope you all have a fun, SAFE fourth of July :-)

"To Be, or Not to Be"...Yourself, That Is....On Social Media

Happy Monday, lovers! I hope you all have a fabulous week, I have some amazing guest bloggers lined up for you. I hope you will pop in here daily and give them lots of love! This week is starting off with Stephanie from #DreamShakeBarbie! Once you read her post, you must stalk her visit her site, my fave posts - girl chat.

"Only speak when spoken to!" I have to admit, my mother nor father ever instructed me in this jarring way during my childhood; however, nowadays, I find that I am directed, in a round-about way, to do just that: not to speak my mind, and only to respond when a question is posed to me. I'm talking about social media, and yes, specifically about Twitter.

I can count on, not one, but two hands, the number of times that people have told me what I need to be tweeting and when I should be tweeting it. Call me crazy, but I am pretty sure that my twitter handle says "@stephaniejoplin" (moi) and not "@everybodyontheplanetpleasecommenthere".  There is something incredibly degrading about a person demanding that you change your thought pattern output.

"Be careful", a mentor and friend of mine warns, "you don't want things to come back and bite you in the ass." But...perhaps I do want things to bite me in the ass. Don't you think something biting you in the ass keeps you on your toes? Allright, maybe I should admit here that yes, there are times when people I don't know from Adam have hurt my feelings, but usually they are those that matter somehow in life (ie: not some lame ass with 14 followers and a photo of a mystical horned goat-man for an avatar). My mentor did, however, say to take each piece of criticism at face value: it's that person's perspective, and you must decide on your own if it is important and useful to you or not.

So admittedly, I have no filter. I am crass at times, and maybe kinda strange...but dammit, I'm funny. I do not have a malicious bone in my body (except perhaps in my disdain for tapered-leg jeans, but I digress) and I go out of my way to make those I love happy. Ask anyone close to me. Even former "worst enemies" are now good friends of mine, because I choose to live in a drama-free world. I talk a big game, people. How else do you think a chick like me who loves to talk about sports survives in a metropolis of testosterone-riddled cyberspace? It's a persona, a character that I embody body & soul in my writing and on social media. But if you were to come into my place or work and shake my hand, you would find a high-energy, professional and collected business woman with a warm smile, a sharp wit, and a penchant for sports chit chat.

Despite the fact that I have a smart mouth, I (unfortunately) have an equally soft heart. I have compassion, and I am affected by those around me. I have met some of the most fantastic and truly special people on Twitter. These individuals, some of whom I have never, nor will ever meet in person, were key players in motivating me to funnel my passion into writing about what I love: and that is Houston sports.

I write to make you laugh, to shock you, to entertain you. I don't write to hurt you personally, or to take up space on your timeline. My thoughts are my thoughts, and I like to share. It's!

If you can remember one thing from this entry, it's this: If you want to write from the heart, you will never have to use your head. You just let your fingertips do the talking.

some days are just GREAT mail days!

A couple weeks ago I had a super awesome mail day. Everything I received was blogger related. Whee! I've had a lot of those lately and things will be making their way to the blog soon. =)

michael marcus Can Can Girl Nail Polish. I received this in my Little Black Bag that I blogged about. Love it. I had never tried (or even heard of) this brand. It goes on super smooth and doesn't chip quickly.

I blogged about a new monthly club I had joined with Kustom Kissers here. I received my first shipment. I've used every single one of them. Don't judge. I know some of you have an addiction to chapstic and lip glosses too.
I received my Essie Klout perk in the mail. It is so pretty! I was under the impression that we were getting one of each summer color, oh well. This color actually went on super smooth!!! ...and I have received several compliments on the color (Mojito Madness)!

Book Review: skinnydipping by Bethenny Frankel

Ok unSimply Celia readers. Here's the deal. I love to read, I really do. BUT how do I find the time? I have an hour+ commute to and from work, then I come home, cook dinner for me and the mister, help watch the mister clean up the kitchen, then maybe we get about an hour of down time before bed to chit chat or watch our favorite shows. Unless we just complete crash out. Weekends are full of household tasks, hanging out with our friends and family, or taking naps... I want to read so bad.

I had a thought... audio books. Since my commute to work is about an hour or so why not listen to an audio book? But then would that mean I have become old lady-ish? I mean I'm heading into my 30's soon... have I hit that age yet? I'm too young to listen to audio books. Right?

Well ladies I picked up an audio book. It was amazing, I loved it. I couldn't wait to hop in my car and press play. Best.Decision.Ever.

Skinnydipping: A Novel
Author: Bethenny Frankel
Read by: January LaVoy
Genre: Women's Fiction - ChickLit
Released: May 1st 2012
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio

Taken from GoodReads: Two-time New York Times bestselling author and one of TV’s biggest reality stars, Bethenny Frankel presents a sexy, hilarious, and romantic novel about a struggling actress and aspiring businesswoman’s pursuit of the female trifecta: a wildly successful career, the perfect man, and an amazing body. Bestselling author, successful businesswoman, popular reality TV star, natural foods chef, and devoted mom Bethenny Frankel pens the perfect guilty pleasure novel—the sexy, hilarious, and romantic misadventures of a struggling actress and aspiring businesswoman burning through Hollywood and New York in determined pursuit of the female trifecta: the perfect man, job, and body. This outrageously entertaining and bawdy roman À clef follows a business-savvy, would-be actress as she burns through men like she burns through calories—our sexy, loud-mouthed heroine grasps at any opportunity that might take her to the top. Listeners will jump at the chance to hear about the thrilling highs and cringe-worthy lows of Bethenny’s first shaky steps into adulthood, told here in a fictional format. Fans know Bethenny won’t shy away from the nitty gritty details of her career failures, romantic faux pas, and wild stories of “only needing a Tic Tac and a coochie” to have a good time on the town—and she will deliver them all with the biting wit her fans have come to love through her TV shows and bestselling nonfiction. While it may be a novel, there is no doubt that this is Bethenny, spilling her funniest stories and juiciest secrets over a few cocktails, with, as always, her trademark honesty: straight from the hip.

My Thoughts: I loved this book. Every time I sat in my car I felt like I was instantly taken into the scenes. I was a fly on the wall watching everything going on. I had an instant connection with the main character, Faith Brightstone, and wanted to drink her Pink Lemonade Mojito with her. Although I felt the first half of was slow moving I could not get enough once the second half started to pick up. I needed to know more. If you are a Bethenny Frankel fan, you can definitely tell that this is a book about her and her road to where she is now. Fun summer read for sure!

Blog Star: Hi I'm Celia

Hi! I'm Celia. I was born and raised in the Clear Lake area of Houston, TX and can't imagine ever moving away. I am head over heels in love with my soon-to-be husband, Mychael. We are getting married this October and just celebrated our 7 year anniversary. I am an animal lover, but mainly cat lover and can speak fluent haz.

I am a career woman and self proclaimed domestic goddess. I work in the Oil and Energy field as a Project Coordinator after leaving a job as a Traffic and Logistics Coordinator. I am so thankful I took a leap of faith because I could not be happier with my new place of employment and adore my new co-workers. I love to cook, bake, and decorate. When I am having a rough day I think I should just throw in the towel and be a stay at home wifey!

I love nail polish and will never turn away a good pedicure with my favorite salon. I've learned my lesson in trying to go to other nail salons. I'm your ultimate girly girl and rarely leave the house without make up or styled hair, not because I'm afraid to but because I actually find it to be a relaxing time. I love football, hockey, and baseball. I have a love/hate relationship with basketball. I want to love soccer, but I just don't understand a game ending in a tie.

Being healthy and fit is important to me. My Dad had a heart attack and two strokes in his 30's. To say it scared me is an understatement. I am a FitFluential Ambassador and am so proud to be part of such a great group of motivational and supportive people.

I love to be around my family and friends. Without them I wouldn't have made it through some of the most trying times of my life. I bounced back from losing everything I had except the clothes on your my back. I was in a dark place and didn't feel like I could go on with my life, my relationships are strong and wouldn't change them for the world.

This little blog of mine is here to document my life, the things that I love and sometimes a place where I can vent and scream. I like to keep it light around here and pretend that life is made up of cupcakes and glitter. Being anything but happy is a waste of time! I hope that this blog can continue to grow with me and my life as I venture through it.

Check out my Erin Condren giveaway...

my Little Black Bag

Friends. I'm a sucker for monthly clubs. Honestly, I can't blame anyone but myself. Well here I am to suck you into my little monthly club pit! You're welcome.

Let me introduce you to. Little Black Bag. Here's the deal. You take a little mini quiz at the beginning. Then you get 2-4 items worth $100+ for $49.95. Seriously. Amazing. You pick your first item, then the experts choose the rest for you. I know I know, you may be thinking.. what?! You actually get to trade items with others. You get to view what others have up for trade with your item and pick something else if you'd like. You have seven days to make your trades. So much fun!

Also, if your friends are in the Little Black Bag club you can take a peek at their bag and help them choose whether they should keep their items or trade. You know us ladies, we always need the advise of our gal pals in order to choose what we need

Here is what was in my first bag:

1.) michael marcus Can Can Girl Nail Polish - retails $15 - traded a product for this.
2.) Betsey Johnson Pig Ring - retails approx $45 - I picked this one up as a gift for one of my besties. Ummm if you are reading. omg look what I found for you!
3.) Archipelago Boticario Body Balm - retails $25
4.) Street Level Zig Zag Printed Satchel - retails $74 - traded a product for this.

So I received $159.00 worth of products for $49.00 !!! Serious score, right?

My next bag will be ready for me on July 1st. I can't wait to see what they have selected for me to choose from! The great thing is, if I don't like anything I can decline. Or heaven forbid I don't have the monies for it (sad face) then I can decline it. So I'm not really obligated.

What are you waiting for, friend? Sign up for Little Black Bag right now! ... oh and I already checked with your hubby, he said it was okay.

Sunday Social

Good morning! I know it's Sunday and I'm posting. So odd right? Well there is a new link up in town called the Sunday Social and I am hopping on the train. Join up, grab a cup of coffee (or hot chocolate, like me), sit back and get ready to make some new bloggy friends. Hope you like what you see here and I can't wait to meet YOU!

Sunday Social

How did you come up with your blog name?
I was tired of my old blog name "...just trying to find my way" as I felt it was holding me back. Strange to feel that way about a title but it's true. I wanted something with my name in it and I wanted something short. So unSimply Celia was born with the help of one of my besties.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?
Some of the friendships I have gained!

What is one thing you have discovered because of blogging and now cant live without?
Erin Condren. Oh my god. Obsessed! and EOS lip balm. It is ridiculously big, but HEY I never lose it!

Facebook or Twitter? and why?
Twitter: I feel like facebook people just don't get it sometimes. Sad, cause those are all of my real life peeps. They don't always understand why I just took a photo of my nails. ;)

If one celeb read your blog who would you want it to be?
Bethenny, seriously just adore her! She has everything, the career, the marriage, and the most adorable little pumpkin. + assistance and nannies to help her ;)

What is something you want people to know about your blog?
What you see is what you get. It's my personal outlet. Most of the time I am happy happy joy joy, but sometimes I'm just down in the dumps or need a venting session. I share my personal life, and I share the things I enjoy. As I grow I hope to grow my blog with me to transition into each stage of my life.

Yay! It is Thursday! I swear this week has flown by! Last weekend was entirely too busy, we only came home to sleep! I'll share more deets about that on the blog next week. This weekend, a celebrity basketball game, bowling and brunch with my bestie and her flower-boy are on the agenda.

Let's get this blog party started with Neely and Amber!

Its Ok Thursdays

  • To spend $$$ on concert tickets just because there is one-two acts out of over 40 that you are dying to see.
  • To get a little sad when you are in the mosh pit and see that the other girls don't have perfectly pedicured toes.
  • To make friends with complete strangers and then forget to get their number/contact info before the pit separates you.
  • To think that some people really need some anger management classes in their life.
  • To feel violated when someone walks into the bathroom, clearly sees the door is closed and peaks through the cracks to see if someone is in there.
  • To sing Justin Bieber's latest song in the kitchen while cooking dinner.
  • To think your bestie should marry her flower-boy after only 4 months of dating, even though when you were with Mychael for 4 months and people mentioned marriage you thought they were absolutely insane!
  • To laugh when a group of girls call you fat, when you are far from it and they are double your size. Hmmm.
  • To be really freaked out that you have been having dreams of your pregnancy and unborn (and unconceived) child.
  • To be really excited to receive a custom made blog planner!!!
  • To decide to take $$$ over a honeymoon.
  • To beg your mister to pleaaaaassseee let you wear your wedding ring now because it is just too pretty!
  • To have joined another monthly club!
  • To get frustrated when blogger doesn't publish your posts when you schedule them.
  • To be excited and nervous to post your first book review next week.
  • To be super excited that more people are contacting me to work with this little blog of mine.
....and that is all for today, my loves.

This card could not be more true! I saw it and laughed my butt off and may have said out loud "yesssss" . I am an only child, so to say that I am bratty and possessive is an understatement. Oh and I can be a bit bossy. Just do what I want.

I also get upset for 1/2 a second and my little horns come out when I see my bestest friends post photos or check in and they say "...with my besties" or "...with my favorite girls!" and I am like... excuse me?! I am not there, how can that be?!

Then I come back to reality and realize I am being a total girl about it.

Just some observations and my thoughts on some rudeness going on =)

In the Blog World:
  • It's rude to ask someone to do a paid sponsorship with you and then bash them on Twitter. Whether or not you started it, participating in it is just as bad. I know I can have my rawr moments, but this is just something I would never do. It's unprofessional. Once you open up your blog to paid sponsorships or to working with brands you just turned it into a business and should treat it that way. I would never ever think to bash any of the ladies on the right hand side of my page. If you are looking to do a paid sponsorship, these two ladies have been a pleasure to work with both on the business front and on a personal level.

A Complete Waste of Makeup

Mrs. Monologues

  •  It's rude to email someone and tell them that their wedding is going to be tacky. I had promised y'all that I would take you though the steps as I was planning my wedding. This included brain storming. I'm not the girl who has has been dreaming about her wedding day her whole life. So I blogged, and tweeted my random thoughts and questions. Yes, my ideas were all over the place there are lots of possibilities with weddings - then the email came and I stopped it all. Sorry, promise broken. Rude, just plain rude.
  •   It's rude to tell people what they should and should not be blogging about on their own blog. It's their little space to do with what they want. If they want to post a million photos of their child, animal, or a freaking pet rock... by golly they should be able to do it. You don't have to read it. Some people love wedding blogs, some people love Mommy blogs, some people love fashion blogs, ... you get my point? This kinda goes for twitter too. Unfollow them, and if they blast you for it... it's kinda embarrassing for them, not you.
In the Real World:
  • It's rude not to let someone out of the elevator before you get on. I understand you may be in a rush to get to where you're going... but I kinda need to get out of the elevator before you head down/up! Unless you're trying to kidnap me.
  •  It's rude to speed up when someone puts on their signal. You may be in a hurry to get where you're going, but that person may have a true emergency.(credit BFF: Shellie) & in all honesty you're not going to get to your destination that much later by letting me in.
  • It's rude not to tip the take-out person at a restaurant. I used to be a waitress and bartender. Typically the bartender will be responsible for take-out orders. Tip them! Especially if the take-out person is not the bartender. They make sure that your order is correct, that you have napkins and silverware and usually they aren't working any tables.
  • It's rude to tap your glass or shake your glass if/when you need a refill. I was out the other day eating and I saw this, I swear daggers flew out of my eyes. A simple "excuse me" when a waiter walkers by is sufficient.

Have you had some of these thoughts lately? Do you agree with me, disagree with me?

    Swapping: Persnickety Plates

Hi, I'm Mrs. Williams & I blog over at Persnickety Plates. I live in Metro Detroit with my husband and our two bad cats. Obviously, I love to cook and bake. I'm persnickety (hence the name) so I don't make a lot of fancy-pants recipes with hard to find ingredients. I make everyday recipes that the average person would be interested in. I think. I especially like chicken, potatoes and baked goods. So you'll see a lot of those. I also love nail polish, dance parties and crafts so I talk about those things on occasion too.

    Swapping: Amber's Life

I'm Amber, a blog design loving bookworm. I love going to the cabin up north, where we ride the 4-wheelers on the trails, fish and just hang out by the fire. I love anything that has to do with Facebook, Twitter, Blogging, friends, family, Photoshop, Illustrator... and of course my Mac or anything that Apple creates! I'm also a self-proclaimed book worm so if I'm not at my computer you can usually find me with my nose in a book or attached to my nook. You can also find me over at my design blog Zany Dezines :)
