Will you be at Chick-Fil-A tomorrow?

Let me tell you. I love Chick-fil-A. I probably stop by one once a week? I used to love their original chicken sandwich. Then they came out with their spicy chicken sandwich. Oh my goodness people, heaven in your mouth. So good! Then they brought the Spicy Chicken Biscuit to their breakfast menu. Oh yea baby, perfect way to start my morning. Can we talk about their waffle fries, and pair that up with their buttermilk ranch dipping sauce. You know I dip my sandwich in it too. Mmmm.
I have fond memories of Chick-fil-A. After my Dad was forced to stop working due to medical reasons he would take me to high-school. First stop, our local Chick-fil-A. He would get a sausage biscuit and fresh lemonade and I would get a chicken biscuit and a Coca-Cola. Almost every morning, that was our routine (if not, you could find us at Shipley's).
Let's move on to college. We had a huge selection with multiple dining halls. I loved me some Taco Bell, cheap and perfect for a college girl's budget but we had a nickname for them, Taco Hell. If I ate there I had no idea if I would be making it to my afternoon lectures. I'm a smart cookie, but I still need some instruction from my professors. Enter Chick-fil-A. You would often find myself and Mychael buying the chicken nuggets and having them with pasta I brought from home. Delicious! Or you would find us grabbing a sandwich before scurrying off to our next class. The food was great, and the staff there was the friendliest on campus.
Now there is life after college. My local Chick-fil-A morning staff knows me, not by name but by car and by my order. I'm the mayor on FourSquare there. You'll find Mychael and I dining at any one of them from time to time. In fact the night we got engaged we had just returned from Chick-fil-A. Mychael says had he of had the ring on him, he probably would have proposed to me right then and there.
Now, tomorrow August 1st has been declared Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day to show support for traditional marriage. You can read the article on it here. There are endless amounts of articles written on the CEO's anti-gay beliefs. I'll let you Google those. Let me tell you. I had no issues with the CEO's beliefs. Those are his personal beliefs and everyone is entitled to their own. I have many friends who strongly oppose gay marriage, I also have those who don't care and those who are gay themselves. My issue came from news reports stating that profits from Chick-fil-A are used to fund anti-gay agendas. I don't want my money going towards that.
My parents raised me to love everyone and give everyone a chance regardless of their sex, race, religion, beliefs, or sexual orientation. I firmly believe in gay marriage. I believe that you should be able to marry a person regardless of their sex if  you are in love. Am I saying that I will never ever step foot into a Chick-fil-A again? No. I just won't be going there tomorrow. I can tell you I probably won't be there as often either.
Will you be there tomorrow?

A Prayer Request - Josh and Hannah

Good morning friends, I hope you had a great weekend! Today I am coming to you with a prayer request.

2009
Meet Josh and Hannah. Hannah is Mychael's cousin and I basically already consider her family. We have never met. When she reconnected with Mychael on facebook she friended me as well, and has welcomed me with open arms.

I've asked Hannah's permission to share the following with you.

The Proposal March '12

Josh asked Hannah to marry him in a photo booth. How adorable cute is that? She said yes!!!

Married July 2012
Josh and Hannah were married last week. And as much as I wanted her to be with child, it is just the wind under her dress. Adorably sweet couple!

Well, Hannah and Josh just found out he has Leukemia. When Mychael told me I was shocked, I felt my heart drop and it felt as if someone punched me in the gut. How could this be?

Josh will start chemotherapy today and will undergo the treatment for 7 straight days. He will also stay in the hospital for a full month. I spoke with Hannah on Saturday and she said the doctors are very hopeful for a positive outcome given the aggressive treatment and the fact that he is in his early 30's.

Please pray for Hannah and Josh to have the strength to get through this and for a positive outcome. If you aren't one to pray please send you best wishes, cross your fingers and toes, or send get well and strength vines their way. I know they will appreciate and I know they will feel the power of the blogger community with them.

a VERY happy Friday!

Happy Friday, y'all! Mychael has been out of town all week on business. I'm leaving early from the office today to go and pick him up! I'm so excited! I missed my monkey bear.

Ever since we moved in together 4 years ago we have never been apart, and I have never slept overnight alone in any of my 27yrs. (with the exception of a night or two here and there when my Pops has been in the hospital, but then I kept all the lights on in my house. And lied to my parents and told them I was staying with a relative. Heh.) My parents even told me I could pack up the kitties and stay with them while Mychael was gone, or if I wanted one of them would come spend the week with me. So so sweet of them, but I declined.

When Mychael told me he would definitely be going on a trip for work I was a little nervous. But I also was excited for him! My excitement for him overshadowed my nervousness. I knew when I dropped him off at the airport that I would cry when I said goodbye, I didn't. I knew that I would leave the airport in tears, I didn't. I knew that when he called me on the first night to tell me sweet dreams I would cry, I didn't. I was proud of myself!

I didn't want him to worry about me here at home, when his focus needed to be on his job. Did I miss him, yes, like crazy.

The first couple days I didn't know what to do with myself. We have the same routine so when I came home and that routine wasn't there... I felt a little lost. BUT I got to kick off my shoes as soon as I came in the door with no one to tell me that I should really put them up. Ugh, that totally takes away from the whole kicking off your shoes thing. Although I did trip over my shoes a couple times and thought, grr if Mychael was here those would be put away. I also didn't make the bed one single day. I'm a rebel.

I was really surprised that our furkids took Mychael being away the hardest. Angel just sits and mopes, he didn't sleep with me until last night. He either slept by the front door or at the end of the bed facing the doorway. My little girl Speedette didn't sit and cuddle with me on the couch but sat at the other end of the couch facing the front door. Last night I finally was able to get them to both come to bed and got their little purr motors going. I know they will be super happy to have Mychael home and Angel will be licking Mychael's face and drooling with happiness. Yes, our Angel drools when he is super happy.

Tonight we are going to celebrate Shellie's Flower Guy's birthday, then I plan on keeping Mychael all to myself for the rest of the weekend!

Does your significant other travel for work?
How did you handle their first trip?
Are you like me and had previously never slept alone in a house?

30 Things Every Woman Should...

I found this via Erika and thought I would take a shot at it. I'm a couple years shy of 30 myself, so why not.   (taken from Glamour's "30 Things Every Woman Should Have and Should Know by the Time She's 30"):

By 30, I "should" have ...
1. One old boyfriend you can imagine going back to and one who reminds you of how far you’ve come.
I can't imagine going back to any of my exes. Not that all of them are "bad" guys, but they just don't suit me. One that reminds me of how far I've come, yes, definitely.

2. A decent piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in your family.
Our bed and our living room couch set and soon enough our dining table. Still searching for that perfect one.
3. Something perfect to wear if the employer or man of your dreams wants to see you in an hour.
Employer, yes. Man of my dreams - Mychael, I could show up naked and he'd be happy. So check and check.
4. A purse, a suitcase, and an umbrella you’re not ashamed to be seen carrying.
Purse, hmm I'm not ashamed of any of the purses I have. A suitcase, I don't personally have one we use Mychael's and his are pretty grown up so sure. Umbrella, yep.
5. A youth you’re content to move beyond.
Sure, I had fun as a child, and was able to experience the college life with no regrets. I would say maybe I would have loved to live on campus, but I'm 99% sure I would have hated it.
6. A past juicy enough that you’re looking forward to retelling it in your old age.
Juicy, depends on what you call juicy? I'm sure my past is pretty lame compared to some.
7. The realization that you are actually going to have an old age -- and some money set aside to help fund it.
Well, duh. I'm going to get old, but I have control over my most of my health and my image so I am not sure what you're getting at here. Money to help fund, I sure hope so. I work my tooshie off and hope to continue to do so!
8. An email address, a voice mailbox, and a bank account -- all of which nobody has access to but you.
Email - Mychael has access, mostly because I am lazy and will tell him to check my email for something so I don't have to pull it up and forward. Voice Mailbox - he doesn't have the password, not for any other reason than I've never needed him to check it for me. Bank Account - although I think we plan on keeping our accounts separate, he has my password for my bank accounts because this girl can never seem to keep her accounts balanced. I swear, the bank changes everything when I get on and puts it back to normal when he does. ;)
9. A résumé that is not even the slightest bit padded.
My resume has never been padded. I work hard, end of story.
10. One friend who always makes you laugh and one who lets you cry.
Yes, for sure. I have more than one friend for each. I'm very lucky!
11. A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra.
Yep, yep, and yep. Although the screwdrivers and drill are technically Mychael's I know how to use both.
12. Something ridiculously expensive that you bought for yourself, just because you deserve it.
Not yet, I feel is deserve something, maybe not ridiculously expensive, but something big. I haven't figured out what I want yet.
13. The belief that you deserve it.
Definitely. I work hard for my paycheck. I could just do the bare minimum but I am always trying to better myself and strive to grow.
14. A skin-care regimen, an exercise routine, and a plan for dealing with those few other facets of life that don’t get better after 30.
Skin-care, yep. Exercise, yep - although I do slack sometimes but it happens. Other things? ... like?
15. A solid start on a satisfying career, a satisfying relationship, and all those other facets of life that do get better.
Career, most definitely! Relationship, uh huh! Just the other night Mychael and I were talking about how far we have come as a couple over the past 7 years and currently we both think we are the happiest we have ever been.
By 30, you should know ...
1. How to fall in love without losing yourself.
Yep, learned that long ago. My Mom and Grandmother beat that into my head!
2. How you feel about having kids.
Yep, we just had this discussion last weekend.
3. How to quit a job, break up with a man, and confront a friend without ruining the friendship.
Job - yes, even though I still really guilty afterwards. A man - um, there is a how to? Just do it. Friend - yes, but I also know that not all friends know how to take it.
4. When to try harder and when to walk away.
Yep.
5. How to kiss in a way that communicates perfectly what you would and wouldn’t like to happen next.
Ha. yes.
6. The names of the secretary of state, your great-grandmothers, and the best tailor in town.
Hillary Clinton. Sadly I don't know the names of my great-grandmothers, best tailor in town - well I haven't had to have anything tailored, sorry?
7. How to live alone, even if you don’t like to.
I have never lived alone, it was one thing I always wanted to do but life didn't pan out that way. I know I could do it though, just hope I don't ever have to now.
8. Where to go -- be it your best friend’s kitchen table or a yoga mat -- when your soul needs soothing.
Definitely, either wrapped in his arms on our couch, or out by the water.
9. That you can’t change the length of your legs, the width of your hips, or the nature of your parents.
Actually, there are surgeries to change the length of your legs. I'm just saying. I'm content with mine though. Your hips, um exercise and diet my friends (given that you aren't at your ideal weight/image). Nature of my parents - they are pretty much awesome. I just wish sometimes they would come to me more often instead of thinking they would be bothering me.
10. That your childhood may not have been perfect, but it’s over.
I had a pretty awesome childhood.
11. What you would and wouldn’t do for money or love.
Figured those both out a long time ago.
12. That nobody gets away with smoking, drinking, doing drugs, or not flossing for very long.
Smoking is gross, casual drinking is fine, drugs - I'm a scardy cat, flossing yea I know my dentist hammers this into my head.
13. Who you can trust, who you can’t, and why you shouldn’t take it personally.
Still figuring out some people, but for the most part, I know who is true and who isn't. I do take it personally as I feel it is a matter of respect.
14. Not to apologize for something that isn’t your fault.
Truth.
15. Why they say life begins at 30.
I don't think I know why they say that, but I can see it. My twenties have been full of growth and finding myself.

So what do we think, my friends? Some of it I think was pretty silly. How do you measure up?

Truth or Dare - III

It is time for truth or dare again with

..maybe I am just a complete idiot but the last two times I have linked up for truth or dare I can't get the button to work. But I want to play so I'm gonna. Follow your hosts: Shades of Gray & A Pinch of PinkAn Organized Mess, and Kiss Laugh & Dream

Ready?

Truth: If you had 24 hours left to live, how would you spend it?
OR...
Dare: Post a photo of your bedroom as is. Tell about what we see in the photo.

I'll guide you from left to right! =)
  • Candle sconces, we picked up at Bed Bath and Beyond. I love them because when I am having the worst day the mister will light them up for me so when I get out of the shower the bedroom is lit by candles and it is calming.
  • Angel photo,  Mychael's Mom gave this to him when he was younger and now it hangs over our bed. I love it.
  • Oh those paint marks on the trim... I did those. I guess I got a little too paint happy. We haven't fixed them yet, but will. One day. ;) Right now it is a memory of the first weekend we were moving in.
  • The Teddy Bear on the left side of the bed is the bear Mychael gave me for Valentine's Day one year with a diamond necklace. We returned that necklace the next day for a photo that brought me to tears and it now hangs in our dining room. Want me to share it with you?
  • The puppy pillow Mychael has had since he was a child.
  • The yellow pillow you see underneath on the right side of the bed is my birth pillow. It is the one thing I have from when I was younger. It is also the pillow that my Marco used to sleep on.
  • The throw at the end of the bed was given to Mychael by his Mom a while ago, it is a cartoon network throw.
  • We love white! This is our 2nd or third comforter cover I believe. When we are not home our dear cats like to play in the center of the bed instead of at the end of the bed and have been known to not only nick the fabric but completely rip it.
  • The bed itself we bought in 2009 I believe, we were excited that Mychael's parents were going out of town on 4th of July weekend. We would have the house all to ourselves. At the time Mychael had a waterbed. It was leaking, bad. It was a double - so we were cramped anyway. Not big enough for two people. Mychael decided we would buy a queen sized bed. Since we were cramped on bedroom space the bed would also need to double as a dresser so we found this bed at Bel Furniture and loved it. It was above what he wanted to spend but I loved it, and it transferred well to our first home together. =)
  • I can not take credit for the room being tidy though, it were just me the bed probably wouldn't be made. I am lucky to have a mister that is OCD about things being clean and everything having its place.

    Roses for the casita

For a quick beautification of the home I have been picking up a bouquet of roses at the grocery store. They usually range from about $10-$15 per dozen. I love fresh flowers, but in the home I have to be careful, both the mister and I have severe allergies. Two years ago it sent me to the doctor because I couldn't breathe. I was having allergy induced asthma attacks. Eep!

    Picked up two weeks ago.

    Picked up last night.

So far Roses are causing no issues, and I put them away when we leave the house so our little booger heads (aka the cats) don't eat them. I think they add a nice touch and every time I look at them I smile. Oh, just had an idea. I should try (again) to grow roses so I can just chop them and place them in our home. Even cheaper ;)

    Julep Maven - July Box

Do you remember a couple weeks ago I blogged about joining Julep Maven? Well, I received my first box and have already used one nail polish!

Julep - The Best Pedi Creme Ever!
I am so excited to try this. I love soft feet and if I could save myself a couple trips to the salon for a pedicure I could see myself buying more of this! I'll share my thoughts with you on this once I have more time to use it.
    Nail Polish - Oscar
I think I will save this color for the wintery season. It seems more like a Christmas-y color to me with all the gold sparkles.
    Nail Polish - Natasha
I love this color, it is a pretty orange-y color. Perfect summer shade.

This was my first time using Julep nail polish. I have to say I am pretty pleased. The application was smooth, the color is true to the bottle and I haven't had any problems with chipping.

You can still use the promo code: MAVENINTRO to get your first month for just a penny.

    Very Inspiring Blogger

I enjoyed nesting way too much this weekend. We hung new window treatments, I made an "H" wreath that is almost finished, we tended to all of our plants and repotted a few, and we had a community meet & greet where I just got to play his mrs. it was nice. Now that it is Monday - I wish I could be at home nesting some more. I have this many ideas floating around in my head that I will probably forget by the time I get home from work.

I definitely woke up in a funk. Then I checked my blog and had some hits from Cole's website and look what I found:

Thank you Cole! This has made my day, I think this award means I should be a stay-at-home-blogger... right?

The rules are pretty straight forward: Thank the blogger(s) who gave you the award and link back to them. Done. Share 7 things about yourself.
    1. I'm 27 and I still don't cut up my own meat if it has a bone.
    2. I think that dumping a can of pinto beans and a can of corn into a bowl, warming them up and mixing well should be considered a full meal.
    3. I will spit out food right back onto my plate if it has any amount of fat on it. I can't do it... I'm a textural eater.
    4. My nails are currently grey, not a very summery color but reflects my current mood. Oh and the weather.
    5. I'm getting closer and closer to being ready for kids, and that scares the crap out of me.
    6. To get people to quit asking me about having children I tell them that children give me hives. I'm allergic.
    7. I battled myself for a long time whether I would change my last name when I got married. (more on that later)

    #FitFluential: 5K Races

a little update for you, my dears! ...running, running with old shoes is painful! I still need to get my butt down to the running store for a new pair of Mizunos!

I haven't run an official race yet, I've completed distances... but that's not enough. I am competitive, but I am scared. I don't like to fail or come in second place. I know I will not "win" but I am still determined, maybe one day I will!

So, why not make some fun out of it in the mean time!? Here are two races which are coming up that I will be at! (given I can get my hands on a ticket!)

The Color Run they just announced on Facebook that they are coming to Houston on November 11th!! Do you realize how happy this makes me? I seen the tweets, blog posts, and facebook photos of friends who have run this elsewhere. I want to be covered in paint too!!

Color Me Rad 5K - They will be in Houston, March 2013. I'm so there! Also, since 2012 they are gluten free. Yay?!

Have you run any races before? Any advice for this girl?

    Keeping up with...

    Tradition.

    • My 4th of July Outfit for the Zoooo,
    • Entrance for the Houston Zoo
    • I needed some Red Bull to function
    • Female Lion at the Houston Zoo
    • Mychael's calzone, both of us could have made a meal out of it. Huge!
    • Mother Nature gave us a beautiful day
    • Mychael figuring out which direction we need to head in...
    • Cheetah!
    • My hands are so tiny compared to his.

I am the type of person that loves to hold on to traditions. One of my favorite traditions with Mychael is our yearly visit to the Zoo on the 4th of July. This year is was our 7th. We have so many memories there. Almost all of them include us getting rained on and coming home like wet dogs...
I remember our first visit to the Zoo we had been dating just under two months, we went because it made for a cheap date - it was free. We were both "poor college students" and still didn't know each other very well. Everything with Mychael always felt so natural so strolling around the zoo was no different, it was a perfect place for a date because it allowed us to talk and allowed him to see how I would function in super hot weather ;)
At the end of our day date for the Zoo I had invited him back to hang out with my family to watch fireworks. He declined and I was shocked. My family is very important to me, and he wasn't declining because he had other plans but simply because he didn't want to and mentioned that it was too early for him. His previous relationship he was close with the girls family, and... blah blah blah, eye roll. Ha!
I almost broke up with him after that. I am glad that I didn't, I would have made one of the biggest mistakes of my life.
I can't wait until one day I am sitting here writing about how we took our child to the zoo for the first time and how much he or she loved it. Little ones at the zoo in awe of all the animals make my ovaries hurt (just a little).

Do you have any traditions that you like to hold on to?

You know your mister loves you when...

...you're having a bad day/week/month and he puts up with your mood swings and still gives you those amazing forehead kisses.

Last week I was having a bad week, nothing in particular but I was feeling overwhelmed and had a million thoughts going through my head at once.

I was starving on Wednesday and knew that I would have chick-fil-a for lunch. I was so excited! I drove to chick-fil-a, pulled up to order, then went to pay and realized I left my entire wallet at home, 40 miles away. A little part of me hoped that the manager would have told me just to take my order and come back the next day to pay. But he didn't. I sent Mychael a text and next thing I know he tells me he will order me some food and have it delivered. Just let him know which restaurants are around me.

Then, Marco's was delivered to my office. A meatball sub, ranch dressing and a pepsi. He thought of it all!

I am so thankful that he thought to have food delivered. I think if I would have gone without eating until dinner time I would have been a wreck!

Small gesture on his part, but meant a lot to me. Happy tummy, happy me....

Let's hope this week is a great week!!
