#GoCoogs - A College Football Colors Linkup!

Happy Friday!!!
Y'all. Today is a super de duper happy friday. I woke up in a fabulous mood. (unlike yesterday, i woke up in the cattiest mood ever!) So, why am I so happy today? Well... for one, it is pay day. Not just any pay day. My first pay day in over a month! Here's the deal. When I took this new job I agreed to temp-to-hire. So I was getting paid every week by a temp agency. I hired on officially with my company on August 1st. On July 31st I found out that our pay cycle isn't once a week, or twice a month, but once a month! I'm pretty sure my eyes were the size of Texas. The one thing I did not ask, "how often do we get paid." Kill me now. Lucky for me, and for the mister I didn't spend all my money from my previous paychecks so I was in pretty decent shape. I am very lucky to have him there to be able to back me up so my account wouldn't go negative, or so that I wouldn't have to call companies to beg and plead that they take some late payments without fees. How much of a headache would that of been? I did cancel a lot of my fun subscriptions and kept my money tight. I didn't even get to do everything that I wanted to do for the mister's birthday. Major bummer but I promised him I would make up for it this month. So after all the bills are paid for the month, and after I've done all my budgeting we'll see how much I can spoil him. All month long I have been saying "when I get paid I am going to do/buy this..." and I also realized that my money supply isn't endless and this getting paid once a month thing may take a little getting used to! Moral of the story. Ask what the pay cycle is when you take a new job. Have any of you had this happen?

On to the fun stuff. Saturday is the start of UH Football!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!! We live for football! This relationship will be temporarily on hold until January. This morning Mrs.Jones tweeted a link for her blog post and it included a link up for college football, OF COURSE I had to create a post!

The mister and I have been going to UH Football games since 2006 when we both transferred in. We have only missed two games, one due to stupid calculus homework that we didn't finish any way and the other due to some serious weather. When the mister graduated in 2010 we became season ticket holders! It is a blast and I can't get enough of it. I want to be that really old couple that brings their children and grand-kids out to the stadium every weekend!

We originally bought in with one of our friends, and have now branched off on our own for the past couple years and have a strong group of 12 season ticket holders! Some are alum and former students, others we just brought out to a game or two and they became hooked on the energy that erupts from our tailgates and the stadium!

Football season is a time for us to catch up with our friends, yell, cheer, get drunk have fun, make new friends, and support our university. This year, we are getting married mid-football season. You bet your cute little behind that we will still show up to the home game on our wedding day! If you see a girl out there in her wedding dress and her ladies in their red dresses come on over and say hello!

Of course we are cheering on more than a handful of NFL teams as well as we watch some of our former players in the NFL and we are cheering on Case Keenum loud and proud here in Houston as he fights for a spot on the Houston Texans roster. Everyone seems to really love him, so here's to wishing him the best of luck.

Do you follow college football? I want to know who your team is! I'll cheer them on for you and it gives me reason to watch more football! How deep does your passion go?

Vox Culture - The Last Organic Outpost

Happy Monday, my friends! I'm not going to lie, I didn't want to wake up this morning. In fact, I woke up 15mins before I was supposed to leave. I left 15mins late for work, but hey... I got there on time. I hope you had a great weekend!!!

On Saturday I woke up to meet the Vox Culture team out at The Last Organic Outpost in the 5th Ward.  Why you ask? Let me back up a little. My friend Linda sent me an email to invite me out to one of the Vox Culture events in September and I started to poke around their website. I found their facebook page and old twitter page which only had 3 tweets from 2009! I mentioned to her that they need a twitter person, I thought they could really grow their network that way. Then she asked if I wanted to do it. Umm... I've been offered quite a few social media jobs within the last few months, I declined them all. I haven't applied for them but people have found me through my own personal twitter feed. (see people, a reason to keep your twitter feed public) She said she would speak with others in at Vox and next thing you know I received an email welcoming me as their new Social Media Voice and an invite to a team building event over the weekend! So what is Vox Culture? The short story, Vox Culture helps fight poverty and injustice locally, nationally, and internationally. You can get the full scoop here. I'm so glad to be a part of this group!

Vox Culture + The Last Organic Outpost 08/25/2012
So what did we do at The Last Organic Outpost? Well I thought when they said we would help plant that meant dropping some seeds and then watering. Boy was I in for a fun surprise. We weeded, tilled, planted and watered 3 plots. Total of about 3hrs of work. I learned so much! Joe (the gentleman in the yellow shirt above) is the brains behind The Last Organic Outpost and was so eager to teach us everything. He kept telling us that you can "never make a mistake", and since this was my first time ever doing anything like this (sure I have my little pots on the balcony, but how many times have I told you my plants died?) it made me feel confident and less self conscious! I also loved that his vision is "Food for Everyone" We also met Keldon and Mark who taught us about taking care of the land. We planted leafy parsley, pickled cucumbers, dragon kale, swiss chard, arugala, straight squash, and crooked squash. We plan on going back out there next month, we should see some sprouts on everything we planted!

Vox Culture Group with one of our Vox Boxes

Yay we're finally done!!!
I was so exhausted after all the work, but it felt so good to know I was doing something right! Do you work with any local groups? If you would like to connect with Vox Culture please follow us on Facebook, and of course on Twitter

oh and since these were all taken with phones, I get to link of with two of my fave bloggers! =) Go see what everyone else has been up to!

Dwell Creative - Blogs & Coffee Print (Giveaway)

Happy Friday, my dears! I am starting a new adventure this weekend and I hope to have lots to tell you come Monday.

Remember when I posted this photo on Instagram? (If you aren't following me, find me!! unSimplyCelia )

I was browsing Etsy, we all know how dangerous that is. and I found the cutest little shop on there called Dwell Creative. I fell in love with this customizable print.

I sent Rachel a message and asked her about buying one, I even told her I didn't drink coffee and asked if I could have a hot chocolate one. She didn't laugh at me, I knew we would have a great new friendship! Anyway I sent her my request and she sent me a proof, she helped me pick out my colors and made some suggestions. She was amazing to work with and kept contact with me, next thing I know my print was at my doorstep! I may have jumped up and down when I received it.

I also kept you pretty people in mind. I asked her if she would be willing to sponsor a giveaway and she said YES! Wahoo!!! So... it's time for the giveaway!!!

Wedding Planning - just under 2 months!

We are under two months until our wedding date! Can you believe it? After an almost 2yr engagement the time is ever so close and everything seems to be going by so quickly! Here is where we are on our wedding planning so far...

  • Rentals - quotes received and since are having such a small wedding the pricing isn't that bad! Yippee!
  • Floral - I really think I may make my own bouquets. I took floral design in highschool and was really good at it. I think I can get my creative side going for a bit. I know someone who can probably have the flowers ordered for me and I can get them at a cheap(ish) price. I'm thinking sunflowers... I love sunflowers and I don't think Mychael nor myself will have an allergy issues with them. Here are a couple of inspirations.
- I love the simplicity of all Sunflowers, plus my girls will be in red dresses and I think the yellow will be so pretty against them.

I love adding in some roses for extra color on mine as well, but I think I am still steering towards all sunflowers.

    • Ceremony / Officiant - Our ceremony site has been booked for months now and is a local garden. Mychael and I chose this site together and felt it had the small intimate feel we wanted. Our officiant will be a former local judge who has watched me grow up!
    • The Wedding Cake - my friend Shellie has offered to do our cake for us! I know that I want something simple and smooth and perhaps with live flowers on it. The groom's cake, Mychael wants it to be UH related. Shellie has come up with a half and half idea which I still need to go over with Mychael and I think it could be a really nice cake and definitely reflect our personalities. The hardest part will be choosing which flavors!
    • The Rehearsal Dinner - this may be hosted at our place or at a small local restaurant. This is actually something that I am the least concerned with. Perhaps because we have kept our wedding so small?
    • Invitations - I could not find anything that I really loved or really reflected our personalities. The paid invites were too expensive for the size of our wedding and the free ones didn't give me the freedom that I needed with wording. I used to be artsy and crafty so I decided to give my creative side a shot and actually came up with a really cute and simple design. I just need to go and have it printed and mail them out. It needs to happen this week. NEEDS TO HAPPEN! Want a glimpse?
    • Reception - friends of the family have offered to host and take care of the reception costs. We could not be more grateful or happier. This was actually our biggest headache! There wasn't a place that either of us were completely happy with. This site pleased both of us.
    • Photography - The lovely Emily (local blogger) of Fleurish Imagery will be capturing moments from our wedding ceremony!
Savanah sent me this photo from Pinterest and I decided that I MUST have a similar shot taken, with our UH game worn jersey...

There are more little details that need to be taken care of but right now, this is the big stuff =)

    Friday

It's true. I do love Fridays. End of the work week, and our office closes 3 o'clock! Mychael and I are having friends over tonight to hand out football season tickets, drink some beers (or vodka if you're me!), eat some semi bad food and just enjoy each others company. Saturday I may be meeting with a local florist about wedding flowers, and we are going to the Iron Maiden + Coheed and Cambria concert that night! Yes, I know kinda hardcore huh? I have a wide range of musical interest. Genie in a Bottle was blaring this morning in my car. Sunday... I think it will be a chill day for us. Until next week, I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Not Changing My Name (or am I?)

For as long as I can remember I have always said, "if I get married, I'm not changing my name". Why?
    • It's MY name.
    • Over the years I have finally perfected my signature. It's perfect and unique.
    • I was never the little teeny bopper that signed her name with the boy flavor of the week's last name.
    • In my local area people know me by my name, and my family's last name.
    • Accomplishments... I've done them. Not someone else, me.
    • Mychael said it didn't really bother him either way.
    • The paperwork...

Then, as Mychael and I became more serious and the idea of marriage became more real... I thought.
    • We are creating a new little family. (even if just furkids for now)
    • I don't want our child(ren) to have a different last name than I do.
    • Our community will begin to know us as Mr. and Mrs. H
    • He has helped me achieve my accomplishments, and has pushed me to try harder, take bigger leaps.
    • He changed his mind and would like me to take his last name.
    • Changing my last name doesn't change who I am.
    • I want to have a little sign that say (insert family name) est. 2012
    • I want Christmas cards, stationary, etc to have our monogram, or our name as a family on them.
    • Changing my last name doesn't mean I am letting go of my past, or my parents.
    • The paperwork isn't a big deal. I've already checked and started on them.

    #FitFluential - Inspire Me: Healthy

Oh hey friends! I've been a little preoccupied with all things wedding, career, fitness, and birthdays! I hope you haven't missed me too much!

    A Mommas Desires And Pacifiers

Raven and Kristen are back for week 2 of Inspire Me: Healthy. You can see my post from last week here.

This week, I have still maintained a pretty clean diet. Even with a couple nights out with friends I opted for a healthier meal option or cut my portions in half. When we went out I consumed ONE drink, a skinny margarita one night (180cal), vodka and cranberry the next (150cal). I have been doing a lot of research on the lowest calorie drinks, I can't have friends thinking I am pregnant or go out on business having clients or coworkers thinking I'm lame. ;)

I am on Day 19 of no sodas! Not even a sip. I can't tell you how much better I feel. I don't feel tired (other than today, and I'll share deets below). I drink water with fresh squeezed lemon or lime, and if I want something a little sweet I'll have a glass of punch, or I could have juice.

Chili's Margarita Chicken with Black Beans, Lime Rice and Pico.
1/2 portion chopped brisket sandwich + fries
On the exercise front, we have run Sunday, Monday, and yesterday. I also hit the gym yesterday for an arm weights session and had very shaky arms afterwards. Loved it. Yesterday I could not complete my run in the evening and walking back almost didn't happen! I don't know what happened, but I had sharp pains running down the front of my legs. I thought it was shin splints, perhaps severe but I have always been able to run through those. Once I came home the mister was sweet enough to massage my legs and we noticed I have bruises on each of my shins. =/ After I woke up this morning my legs seemed to have calmed down and I have been sitting with my legs up on my PC tower at work. I did walk to a little restaurant near by for lunch and my legs kinda hurt again... My next run should be Friday, but I may have to wait until Sunday...

Monday evening run, about 1/4 into it we saw some rain clouds but thought we would beat the rain. On our way back we ran straight into a thunderstorm. We had to stop under some trees a couple times because we couldn't see where we were going but it made the run fun.

After yesterday's gym session! "Sweat is just fat crying" ... at least that is what they tell me. And yes, I am the girl at the gym who works out with her hair down. We do exist!

Hope you'll tune in next week!

    Blog Star: Hi I'm Celia

    Mrs. Monologues

This little blog of mine has started to grow consistently lately and I want to tell each and every one of you thank you so very much for following along. You can see my first Blog Star post here. It is a great way to know a little about my background.

I am currently prepping for our wedding in October. Just a tad over 60 days to go and I feel like I have a massive amount of tasks to complete. TheKnot.com tells me I am right on schedule though. Let's keep our fingers crossed that I don't fall off track or you may see me in panic mode all over Twitter.

With the wedding being so close I feel like I have to be in total control of my body, can't lose too much weight or the dress will have to be altered. I can't gain too much weight or the dress won't fit. Sheesh!

Although Mychael and I have been together for a little over 7 years, and lived together for 4 of those years, as our wedding date gets closer I can already feel and see our relationship dynamics changing. In a good way. We consult each other more when it comes to financials, and job opportunities.

We are faced with so many questions! Do we join our bank accounts? Do I take his last name? All accounts that we have individually, do we join them? Auto/Home Insurance? Cell Phones? Shoot, am I missing something?

The subject of starting our own little human family keeps coming up. Don't get too excited, it isn't happening tomorrow. ;) The conversations are more serious and we are starting to envision our lives with a child in it. We are starting to see some of our goals before children become reality.

I plan on touching on all of the above shortly but I would love to hear your thoughts in the time being. If you are just coming across my blog today, introduce yourself. If you have been following for a while but haven't said "hello", please do so now. I hope you'll stick around!

Thanks to Mrs. Monologues for letting me co-host with her this month!!

    #FitFluential - Inspire Me: Healthy

    All In My Twenties

Y'all when I saw Raven's post pop up in my header I thought I have to do this! Raven and Kristen have started a get fit link-up called Inspire Me: Healthy . Myself and a couple other girls had been brain storming since June to do a link up but we have just been so busy we haven't been able to discuss it and go through with our plan. So thank goodness for Raven and Kristen! Now I can just write.

I've told my story already with Blogger's Biggest Loser, you can read those here, here and here. I kinda back tracked since then, and I refuse to step onto a scale. I'm sure I would have had a complete melt down. I have started running again and have signed up for some 5K races. I have new workout gear that comes in this month that I am excited for. It's sweat activated!!

I gave up all sodas towards the end of last month. Today is Day 12 of soda free me! All I have consumed is iced water with lemon. Oh and I had one starbucks latte last week.

I did the Advocare 10 Day Cleanse and completed it yesterday. Between that and no sodas at all... I feel 100% refreshed. I used to need a giant Monster or Redbull and I don't need those anymore. I don't crave anything that is "bad" for me. I have been trying out the SLAM drinks and haven't decided on a favorite yet.

I'll be back with my before and after measurements. Silly me forgot to take measurements this morning. I can tell you though, I have been walking around the office with pants that used to be my fat pants, then became my barely fit me pants and now, they are fat pants again. They are entirely too loose on my behind, legs and waist. I keep having to pull them up. I have also gone in a notch on my belt loop!

I hope to do this weekly, but if not it will definitely be a biweekly thing for me. I am excited to be able to read about everyone else.

    #SawPinnedConquered - Monogram Wreath

When Amy asked me if I would like to co-host a new link up with her, I had to say yes! I love Pinterest and I have tried a couple recipes here and there. On my old account I had pinned lots of things I wanted to do but I never really got around to doing it. Well, with my new account I have vowed that I will try to the best of my ability to do the things I pin!

Last week Amy launched her #SawPinnedConquered series! Check it out here.

I love wreaths, but good gosh they are expensive. Well, the customizable ones are. Last year I saw people pinning monogrammed wreaths, I loved them, but was too lazy and too distracted to make my own. A couple weeks ago I decided to google how to make my own monogrammed wreath. I came across Chlesea's blog called two twenty one and she has the best tutorial on a Jute Monogram Wreath! I printed that baby out and pinned it.

It wasn't hard at all and took me less than an hour. Want to see?

Please pay no mind to the color of the door, we bought a condo and this is the color they want all the front doors to be.

I am thinking that I may cut the ribbon and hang the H a little higher.

I think I did pretty good considering this was my first time doing anything like this! I may make some of these as gifts for friends! I know I would have been ecstatic if I would have received something like this.

All of my supplies were less than $20 ! That included the glue gun, and glue sticks. One thing though, my glue gun leaks. I have to keep a paper towel under it so it doesn't leak onto the table. Perhaps I bought one that was too cheap? Those of you who craft on the regular, do you have a glue gun that you absolutely love? Or is this normal?

If you have made something recently inspired by Pinterest, please get your posts together grab a button from her site and link up with us! I can't wait to hop around and see what everyone else has made that was inspired by Pinterest. Follow me here.

(Note: Amy's internet is currently down, but she will have her post up sometime today so be sure to keep checking out her page to see what she has been up to!)
